Manchester United official: A new stadium with a capacity of 100,000 people will be built

Manchester United issued a statement on Tuesday announcing that it will build a new stadium that can accommodate 100,000 people.

Manchester United envisions that the new stadium will be the core of the Old Trafford redevelopment project. They further added in the statement: "The project is expected to contribute £7.3 billion to the UK economy each year and bring significant socio-economic benefits to the local community and the wider region, including the creation of 92,000 jobs, the construction of more than 17,000 new homes, and the attraction of an additional 1.8 million tourists each year."

Manchester United has also expressed its support for the construction of a new stadium. Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe said: "Today marks the official start of an exciting journey. We will build the greatest football stadium in the world and make it the core of the Old Trafford redevelopment project."

“Our existing stadium has played an important role over the past 115 years, but it can no longer compete with the best stadiums in the world. By building a new stadium next to the current one, we can retain the unique heritage of Old Trafford while creating a truly modern stadium that enhances the fan experience and is close to the historic Theatre of Dreams.”

“Equally important, the new stadium will serve as a catalyst for the socio-economic regeneration of the Old Trafford area. Not only will the project create significant jobs and investment during the construction phase, but it will also deliver lasting economic benefits once the stadium is built. The UK Government has made infrastructure investment a strategic priority, particularly in the North of England, and we are proud to be contributing to that mission through a project of such national and local significance.”

Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada said: "Our long-term ambition is to have the best team in the world, playing in the best stadium in the world. We are grateful to the Old Trafford Redevelopment Task Force for its feasibility study, which explored a number of options for the future development of Old Trafford."

“We have carefully analysed the findings of the working group and have taken into account the views of many fans and local residents. We have concluded that a new stadium is the right direction for Manchester United and the surrounding community. We will continue to conduct in-depth consultations to ensure that the views of fans and residents are always heard in the final decision-making process.”

Sir Alex Ferguson added: “Manchester United should strive for excellence on and off the pitch, and that includes our stadium. Old Trafford holds countless precious memories for me personally, but we must rise to the challenge of building a new home that is fit for the future and where new history can be written.”
