Bayern Munich extends contract with 30-year-old defensive midfielder Kimmich until 2029, with annual salary unchanged

Bayern Munich officially announced that Joshua Kimmich's contract will be extended from 2025 to June 30, 2029.

According to German media Bild, Kimmich's annual salary after the contract extension remains at 20 million euros. Bayern originally planned to increase his annual salary to 22 million euros, but due to delays in negotiations, the offer was withdrawn last Monday.

After completing the contract extension, Kimmich said: "At Bayern, I have the best environment to achieve my personal competitive goals. My decision came from this. On the road to success, Bayern's teammates, coaching staff and club environment are incomparable. I feel at home in Bayern, and my journey is far from over."

Kimmich, 30, came from the youth training of Stuttgart and joined Bayern from RB Leipzig for 8.5 million euros in July 2015. He mainly plays as a defensive midfielder and right back in Bayern Munich. So far, he has made 426 appearances, contributed 43 goals and 114 assists, and won 1 Champions League, 1 Club World Cup, 8 Bundesliga titles, 1 European Super Cup, 3 German Cups and 6 German Super Cups with the team.

Kimmich has also played 97 times for the German national team, scoring 7 goals and providing 22 assists. He has participated in 3 European Cups (2016, 2020, 2024) and 2 World Cups (2018, 2022), and won the Confederations Cup as a main player in 2017.

Regarding the decision to renew Kimmich's contract, Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dresen explained: "We are delighted that Joshua Kimmich will continue his journey at Bayern. He has always played a leading role, both at the club and as captain of Germany. His desire to win remains strong, which was also confirmed in the Champions League round of 16. His determination and dedication perfectly illustrate Bayern's values. He should be the bridge between our team's present and the future."

Max Eberl, Bayern's sports director, said: "Joshua Kimmich represents a spirit and identity. Over the years, he has internalized the genes of the Bayern club and perfectly interpreted them on and off the court. Others stand still, but he moves forward. We are happy that he will continue to drive the team forward."
