RB Leipzig defeated Borussia Dortmund by 2-0 on matchday 26th of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday.

In the first half, Openda's volley hit the crossbar from close range, Simons' shot ended up in the back of the net, and Baku hit the crossbar with a long shot. In the second half, Openda volleyed and scored, while Beier's header hit the crossbar. In the end, RB Leipzig defeated Dortmund 2-0. After this round of games, Leipzig is temporarily 5th on the table with 42 points; while BVB are temporarily 11th with 35 points.

First Half

In the 9th minute, Karim Adeyemi passes horizontally from the front. Serhou Guirassy quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed with his right foot from the center of the box, but his shot was saved by Peter Gulacsi.

5 minutes later, David Raum made an overhead horizontal pass from the byline on the left side of the box. Loïs Openda quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed with his right foot from a very close distance in the box. Unfortunately, his shot hit the crossbar and bounced off. RB Leipzig missed a golden opportunity to break the deadlock!

In the 17th minute, Xavi Simons passes horizontally from the front. Raum quickly followed up and got the ball and took a few steps before volleying with his left foot from the left side of the box, his shot was initially was saved and cleared not far away by Gregor Kobel. Simons quickly followed up andupon picking up the loose ball, strucked the ball into the bottom left corner of the net with his right foot from the center of the box. RB Leipzig broke the deadlock first to take a 1-0 lead! This is the Netherlands international wonderkid's 8th goal in all competitions this season!

In the 35th minute, Christoph Baumgartner passes horizontally from the front. Ridle Baku quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, took a long shot with his left foot from the edge of the penalty area. Unfortunately, his shot hit the crossbar and bounced off. RB Leipzig missed a golden opportunity to expand its lead!

In the second minute of the first half stoppage time, Kobel made a long pass from his own back half. Karim Adeyemi quickly followed up, got the ball, cuts inside and took a few steps before taking a long shot with his left foot from the edge of the penalty area, but his shot was saved by Gulacsi.

At the end of the first half, RB Leipzig temporarily led Borussia Dortmund by 1-0 into the halftime break.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 48th minute, Leipzig got a deadly corner kick opportunity. Simons took the corner by crossing it into the box. Upon receiving the pass, Loïs Openda half-volleyed the ball from the right side of the box with his left foot. His shot flew straight into the upper left corner of the net, leaving Kobel out of reach. RB Leipzig expanded its lead to 2-0! This is the Belgium international striker's 12th goal in all competitions this season!

2 minutes later, Julian Ryerson crossed the ball into the box from the right wing. Maximilian Beier rose high and attempted with a header in the box. Unfortunately, his effort hit the crossbar and bounced off. Borussia Dortmund missed a golden opportunity to pull a goal back!

In the 5th minute of injury time, Leipzig made a quick counterattack. Benjamin Šeško intercepted the ball and took a few steps before taking a long shot with his right foot from the edge of the penalty area, but his shot went wide of the right side of the post.

When the final whistle is blown, RB Leipzig defeated Borussia Dortmund by 2-0.
