D'Angelo Russell reiterated over the weekend that he wants to continue playing for the Brooklyn Nets next season.
D'Angelo Russell, 29, is a point guard who was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the second pick in the first round in 2015. He subsequently played for the Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves, and won the 2023 NBA Cup with the Lakers.
In December 2024, Russell returned to the Nets through a trade. So far, he has played 52 games for the Nets, averaging 12.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 40%. The Nets are ranked 13th in the Eastern Conference with 23 wins and 45 losses, and they do not rule out rebuilding the lineup during the offseason.
According to a report by New York Post reporter Brian Lewis, Russell is satisfied with his ball distribution in the Nets and has expressed his willingness to stay with the team to those around him. He will enter the free market for the first time after his contract expires this summer, and it is still unknown whether he can stay with the team. Brian Lewis continued to say that the Nets may consider offering him a short-term contract due to the lack of top players available for trading in the market, but limited salary space is still a key factor.
As for Russell, he admitted to Brian Lewis about the future: "To be honest with you, it's out of my hands. I've been on a team where almost everyone is a free agent. They have the initiative and they hold the chips. If they decide to bring me back, great. If not, then we'll figure it out."
Although he hopes to continue playing for the Nets, Russell is still looking forward to the free market. He said before the Nets lost to the Celtics 115-113: "Do you want to return to the Nets? Yes, but I just want to stay in the NBA. I don't seem to have really entered the free market. Looking back, I really haven't. I'm not used to it, but let's see what happens."
"I signed a two-year contract with the Lakers, one of which is a player option. I've never really been a free agent, so I'm looking forward to it."
