The UEFA Nations League quarter-finals are about to begin. Portugal will challenge Denmark away in the first round. Coach Roberto Martinez praised the Danish coach Brian Rimmer.
Portugal is the favorite team in the UEFA Nations League, ranking first with 14 points in the group stage and successfully advancing. Denmark ranked second in the group with 8 points. However, Martinez did not underestimate the opponent, but gave high praise to Denmark.
In the pre-match press conference, Martinez mentioned Rimer, saying: "I respect him a lot, he has a lot of courage. I really admire his coaching work at other clubs and the way he prepared for the game against Spain."
"This team is very direct and makes full use of the abilities of young players. They have performed very well in recent years. The coach has his own style. He likes to let the team press high and take risks. I admire this very much. We must give our best performance in tomorrow's game."
Martinez coached the Belgian national team during the 2021 European Cup, when they also challenged Denmark away. Martinez admitted that he was impressed by the atmosphere at the Danish home court. Martinez said: "We have great respect for the performance of the Danish team at home."
"I've played in this stadium twice as a coach and I know the power and influence that the fans bring. The first time I coached here was during the pandemic and the second time was after the Eriksson incident and I still remember that strong energy."
