Chris Wood's hat trick puts New Zealand one step closer to their goal


Chris Wood, who currently plays for Nottingham Forest, has scored hat tricks in multiple games for New Zealand, helping the team get closer and closer to qualifying for the World Cup .  

 

The striker scored three goals for New Zealand in their clash with Fiji, which means New Zealand will be guaranteed direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup with a win over New Caledonia.  

 

All three of Chris Wood's goals were headers, with the first coming within six minutes of the game when he met a cross from Sarpreet Singh and broke the deadlock. Singh, Tim Payne and January signing Tyler Bindon added three more goals before the break to ensure a four-goal advantage.  

 

Chris Wood then scored twice in quick succession from two crosses from Payne in the 56th and 60th minutes, completing the striker's hat-trick, but he was substituted off shortly afterwards.  

 

Chris Wood has scored 10 goals in his last five games for New Zealand, including a hat-trick in his previous appearance for the team.
