Paredes: The contract contains a termination clause for Boca, I hope to return one day

Leandro Paredes confirmed on Friday that his new contract with Roma contains a release clause specifically for Boca Juniors.

Paredes, 30, mainly plays as a defensive midfielder and made his professional debut for his parent club Boca Juniors in November 2010. He played for Boca Juniors' first team for five years, making 31 appearances, scoring five goals and winning the Argentine Primera Division and the Copa Argentina with the team.

After leaving Boca Juniors, Paredes played for Roma, Empoli, Zenit St. Petersburg, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and other teams, and returned to Roma for 4 million euros in August 2023. So far, he has played 77 times for Roma, scoring 7 goals and 9 assists.

It is reported that Paredes was close to returning to Boca Juniors this winter. Although he postponed his return plan after Claudio Ranieri took office and was reused, he never gave up the idea of returning to Boca. According to Gaston Eidur, a reporter from Argentina's Tyc Sports, when Paredes renewed his contract with Roma, he included a 3.5 million euro termination clause in the contract, which only Boca Juniors has the right to activate.

The authenticity of the clause was also confirmed by Paredes himself. After yesterday's match against Uruguay, he talked about it to Tyc Sports: "Yes, that's right. This clause only applies to Boca, not to other teams."

He went on to explain: "I did not negotiate this with the Boca management, but reached an agreement directly with Roma. I am very grateful for this. Our contract extension would have taken effect automatically based on the number of appearances and the set goals, but the club chose to reach an agreement in advance and included this clause in the contract. Therefore, I am very grateful to my club."

As for the timing and possibility of leaving the team, Paredes said frankly: "It is possible from now on, but I also know that it is very difficult. The best time to transfer is in January. At that time, I tried my best to return, but failed for various reasons. I will still focus on my current career and hope to return to the club one day."
