Eddie Nketiah is delighted for Mateusz Franza after he scored Crystal Palace's first goal for the club against Southampton.
Crystal Palace were constantly looking for chances in this game and they didn't fall behind until the closing stages, when Mateusz Franza suddenly emerged, shaking off injury problems to score his first goal since joining the club in the summer of 2023.
Eddie Nketiah said: "Mateus Franca's performance is really good. He has been plagued by injuries so far. Although Mateus Franca is unfortunate, he works hard in training every day and he is a very lively person."
"I'm very happy for him because he scored his first goal and I hope it's the first of many."
“We were in good form and although the goal was to get the three points, we have to accept this result. We always want more but I think it’s just a matter of character in the players, the team and the staff. It’s a character we’ve developed throughout the season because we always want to fight to the end and always want to do our best.”
“We were able to score, so we knew we could equalize even if we were behind. We were a little unlucky and our shot at the end didn’t go in. Anyway, we gave our all throughout the game, which proved that we really wanted to win.”
Within two minutes of the game, Crystal Palace hit the crossbar through Jean-Philippe Mateta's shot. Eddie Nketiah said: "It was a great shot, his shot hit the crossbar. But this is football, sometimes you score and sometimes you don't."
"I think every player has tried their best in this game. We just need to rest well and recover, and continue to work hard in the next game."
“We have another game in a few days, which is a very important game for the team. I think we can play better and I believe we will do it, just need to keep this character. We will win the support of the fans at home and we are looking forward to the next game and hopefully get the three points there.”
