Arsenal boss Arteta regrets result

In the 31st round of the 2024-25 Premier League, Arsenal challenged Everton away and ended the game with a 1-1 draw. Coach Mikel Arteta regretted the result.

At the press conference after the game, Arteta talked about the game and said regretfully: "This is a difficult away game, and we deserved more. Everton was very organized under their familiar rhythm. They are good at constantly sending the ball to the front court, creating direct impact and competing for the second point. We basically didn't give them too many real opportunities in this game, which is very positive."

In this game, Arsenal took the lead in the first half, but the team's performance in the second half was not satisfactory and failed to turn the advantage into victory. Arteta said: "We did not enter the game in the right way, lacked initiative, and the use of space was not ideal."

"We passed the ball back to the keeper at the start and then we were forced into a direct attack. Then there was another direct attack and the referee awarded a penalty, which changed the course of the game."

"I watched the decision at least 15 times and I cannot agree that it was a penalty. If the referee thought it was a foul, then O'Brien should have been sent off and Everton should have been left with 10 men."

“We took control of the game again but couldn’t establish a sustained attacking rhythm. On the one hand, the opponent frequently interrupted the game, and on the other hand, we committed a lot of unnecessary fouls when handling the second penalty. We created two great opportunities, but failed to convert them into goals.”

Although Arsenal can only leave Goodison Park with 1 point, the team's solid defense still gives people hope. Arsenal's next game will be on April 9, when they will host Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.
