Bologna officially announced on Tuesday that Poland goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski's contract extension option will automatically take effect due to the number of appearances he has reached. His contract will be extended for another year and will be valid until June 2026.
Since August 2024, Skorupski's stay has been the focus of media attention. Earlier media reports said that Bologna had planned to renew Skorupski's contract until 2029, but it seems that no agreement has been reached.
Despite this, Bologna still uses the contract extension option to ensure that Skorupski stays for at least one year. If Skorupski eventually chooses to leave the team, the 24-year-old Italian goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia is expected to become his successor.
Skorupski, 33, is a goalkeeper who has played for Shakhtar Zabrze, Roma, Empoli and other clubs in his career. He moved to Bologna for 9 million euros in July 2018 and has made 247 appearances so far, keeping 64 clean sheets.
Bologna has performed well this season, ranking fourth in Serie A with 57 points after 31 rounds with 15 wins, 12 draws and 4 losses. They are currently only 1 point behind Atalanta and lead Empoli by three goals in the first leg of the Italian Cup semi-final.
However, Skorupski strained his right adductor muscle in the 25th minute against Napoli on Monday and sources said he is expected to return within three weeks.
