Denver Nuggets fired head coach Michael Malone..

The Denver Nuggets announced on their official website on Tuesday that the team has decided to fire its meritorious head coach Michael Malone.

According to the Nuggets' official statement, it was not easy to make this decision, but in order to save the team's championship-winning ambitions, the management had to make the decision to part ways with Malone.

Although the two sides no longer have a working relationship, the Nuggets management is still very grateful for Malone's contribution to the team in the past 10 years, which has enabled the team to win the NBA championship once under the star lineup he has worked hard to develop and build.

Next, assistant coach David Adelman will coach the team as the interim head coach for all the remaining games of this season.

At the same time, general manager Calvin Booth will also leave the team after his contract expires.

The Nuggets, who have achieved 47 wins and 32 losses in the Western Conference this season, will face the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday local time in the United States. They have already suffered 4 consecutive losses and urgently need to get back on track to keep their dreams of securing qualification for the playoffs alive.

About Michael Malone

Malone, 53, was born on September 15, 1971 in Queens, New York, USA. He is 1.88 meters tall. He attended Loyola University of Maryland during college and played as a point guard for his college team. His late father, Brendan, was a famous head coach of the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Malone served as an assistant coach for basketball teams of many American colleges in his early years. In 2001, he followed his father's footsteps and officially joined the Knicks as an assistant coach.

From 2005 to 2010, Malone became an assistant coach for the Cavaliers, another team his father had worked for.

As an assistant coach for the Cavaliers, Malone helped the team rise to become a regular which qualified for the Eastern Conference playoffs for five consecutive years, and even reached the NBA Finals in 2007.

In the summer of 2011, Malone moved to the Golden State Warriors as their assistant coach. During this spell, he was selected as the best Assistant Coach of the Year by all NBA general managers.

In June 2013, Malone was appointed as the head coach of the Sacramento Kings, which made him the second father-son duo in NBA history to become head coaches of a team.

However, due to a poor start, Malone was fired in December 2014.

In June 2015, Malone was appointed as the head coach of the Denver Nuggets.

During his 10-year spell as the Nuggets' head coach, Malone coached a total of 798 games for the team, achieving 471 wins and 372 losses, and won the 2023 NBA championship with the team. He is the fourth longest-serving head coach in NBA history after San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra and Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, and is also the head coach who has overseen three-time MVP Nikola Jokic's 10-year career.
