Plymouth appoints Myron Muslich as new manager

Plymouth Argyle have announced Myron Muslic has been appointed as their new manager on a three-and-a-half year contract following the sacking of Wayne Rooney.

Plymouth and 39-year-old Rooney parted ways at the end of last year, ending his difficult period at the bottom of the English Championship. Now 41-year-old Muslic took over the team. This coach with an excellent coaching resume in the Belgian First League is responsible for leading the team to relegation.

Club chairman Simon Hallett said on the club's official website: "Myron has a clear vision to lead Argyle forward and the tactical awareness he has shown gives us confidence that he knows how to set up the team's tactical system and play. His coaching experience at Brugge was impressive, and he led a low-ranked team into the European arena, which is no easy task. On behalf of the club, I welcome him to join and look forward to his quick and positive impact on the team."

This is the second time Rooney has been fired in 12 months. He failed to bounce back at Plymouth after being fired by Birmingham City in early 2024. The new coach Muslic led the team to 43 wins in 101 games during his time in the Belgian First Division. His resume brings a glimmer of hope to Plymouth.

Currently, Plymouth is at the bottom of the Championship standings, 3 points away from the safety zone, but they still have 21 games to fight for relegation opportunities. This Saturday, the team will face Brentford in the third round of the FA Cup, which will be the first challenge after Muslic took over.
