Anthony Edwards fined $50,000 for obscene gesture

The NBA announced that Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards was fined $50,000 for making an obscene gesture toward a referee during a game.

The incident occurred on January 11, during the Minnesota Timberwolves' game against the Memphis Grizzlies. Edwards' behavior caused controversy during the third quarter of the game. The Minnesota Timberwolves eventually lost to the Memphis Grizzlies 125-127.

Edwards was subsequently fined by the NBA. This fine was Edwards' fifth disciplinary penalty this season, bringing his cumulative fines to $285,000. Previously, most of his violations were due to the use of inappropriate language.

On November 15 last year, during the Minnesota Timberwolves' game against the Sacramento Kings, Edwards was fined $35,000 for an obscene gesture. Edwards has been in the NBA for five seasons and is a two-time All-Star. His behavior, both on and off the court, has been increasingly scrutinized.

The 23-year-old Edwards joined the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2020. He has averaged 25.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game this season. The Minnesota Timberwolves are currently facing the pressure of the playoffs, while also struggling to deal with Edwards' disciplinary issues.
