Michael Cooper's jersey is retired: This is all too unbelievable

The Los Angeles Lakers held a jersey retirement ceremony for legendary guard Michael Cooper, who is known for his defense. He was moved and said it was all too incredible.

In a grand ceremony at halftime of the Los Angeles Lakers' game against the San Antonio Spurs, the Lakers hung Cooper's No. 21 jersey on the downtown arena's wall of honor, between Magic Johnson (No. 32) and James Worthy (No. 42).

This ceremony means a lot to Cooper. He gave a speech and said: "For me, all of this is too incredible, because I never thought there would be such a moment. I have always played for the love of basketball, for the team, and to win the championship. Tonight is more special to me than being selected into the Hall of Fame, but both are equally important to me."

"I have always tried to play the right way. Now I am recognized by everyone, which feels great. Although there are many superstars on my team, sometimes I will be overshadowed, but this is not important to me, because the most important thing is the overall effort of our team and winning the championship."

Cooper, 68, played for the Los Angeles Lakers as a basketball player. He is a typical 3-and-D player. Cooper performed well in both defense and shooting. Cooper was selected to the NBA All-Defensive First Team five times and won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 1987.

After retiring from basketball, Cooper has devoted himself to coaching. In October last year, Cooper was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The Los Angeles Lakers' jersey retirement tradition is limited to Hall of Fame members. Therefore, the Los Angeles Lakers quickly announced after Cooper was inducted that Cooper's jersey was retired and became a member of the team's wall of honor.
