The International 2025 (TI 2025), the annual Dota 2 world tournament, is about to kick off, and the European qualifying battle has already begun.
There were changes in the lineup of the Western European Closed Qualifiers. Many teams that originally belonged to the Eastern European region successfully advanced through the Western European Open Qualifiers and occupied half of the final seats, which sparked heated discussions.
In the two rounds of open tournaments that ended on June 3, Eastern European teams such as 1win, NAVI Junior, Virtus.pro, Yellow Submarine and 4Pirates made it to the finals, becoming the main force in the promotion. Only Team Secret, representing Western Europe, won a place, becoming one of the few local teams to advance to the closed tournament.
These teams chose to register for the Western European region mainly because Eastern Europe only had one qualifying spot this year, and Aurora Gaming was widely expected to win it. Aurora Gaming eventually won the Eastern European qualifiers almost without any suspense, and successfully advanced with only one loss.
In order to gain more chances to qualify, many teams will place their hopes on the Western European region, which has more places. The Western European closed qualifiers will be held from June 13 to 17, and the participating teams include the five Eastern European teams mentioned above, as well as Nigma Galaxy, OG, MOUZ and AVULUS, who were directly invited from Western Europe.
The competition adopts a double-elimination system, except for the finals which is a best-of-five game, the rest are best-of-three games. The two winning teams will join the world-class teams such as Team Liquid, Team Spirit, and Tundra Esports that have been directly invited to participate in the TI 2025 in Hamburg, Germany from September 4 to 14.
