Finch says Anthony Edwards' technical foul was the right decision

Anthony Edwards was assessed a technical foul for slamming the ball to the floor after the buzzer beater, though the NBA rescinded the penalty on Saturday.

In the Minnesota Timberwolves' game against the New York Knicks on Friday night, Edwards slammed the basketball into the air after the buzzer sounded at the end of the second quarter. Although league rules prohibit players from hitting the basketball, which is considered a "clear act beyond the respect of the game," the rule usually applies to situations in which the game is in progress, and Edwards made this move after the buzzer sounded.

"The technical foul was canceled and it was the right decision," Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch said before Saturday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

If the technical foul is not rescinded, it will be Edwards' 10th technical foul this season. According to NBA rules, a player will be automatically suspended for one game after accumulating 16 technical fouls in a season. After that, an additional suspension will be added for every two technical fouls. Since the season is only halfway through, Finch revealed that the team has discussed the technical foul issue with Edwards.

"We've been in similar situations in past seasons, and he's always been able to adjust and control his emotions," Finch said.

The Timberwolves return home to face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night.
