Aaron Cresswell said the team will remain optimistic and will get better in the future

Aaron Cresswell is hoping West Ham United can bounce back from a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace and finish the season strongly. West Ham failed to build on their momentum from their 3-2 win over Fulham against Crystal Palace, with Jean-Philippe Mateta's two second-half goals proving the inequality between the two sides.

The frustrating match was compounded by the fact that Konstantinos Mavropanos was sent off for two yellow cards with 10 minutes remaining, but Aaron Cresswell believes he and his team-mates will learn a lot from the game, their third encounter under new boss Graham Potter.

Aaron Cresswell said: "We are very disappointed with the result and our performance. The first goal was particularly disappointing. Crystal Palace has been in good form recently. Although we played a little sloppy, Jean-Philippe Mateta played well.

"That's not an excuse, but we have a lot of key players missing at the moment. We all know that as a team, there is still a lot of work to be done. Nonetheless, it was a disappointing game, but we will be back on the training ground, ready to go again and looking forward to the next game."

Graham Potter has already coached three games in his short time in charge and Aaron Cresswell believes the squad will benefit from a week of training under the tutelage of the manager ahead of their clash with Aston Villa.

Aaron Cresswell also said: "We know there is still a lot of work to do and the new coach is in place for a reason. As players, our performance is not good enough, but we must unite and start again."

"Since Graham Potter took over as manager, he has always had a great atmosphere on the training ground and everyone is positive and ready to learn. We have to get through this together and stay optimistic. We still have a lot of games to play and a lot to do, and I believe things will get better and better in the future."
