Tottenham in talks with Bayern to sign Matthijs de Ligt

Tottenham Hotspur has opened talks with Bayern Munich to discuss the possibility of signing French U21 international Matthijs Terre. Meanwhile, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have also shown strong interest in the young striker. Since joining Bayern from Rennes in 2022, Terre has made 83 appearances in all competitions and scored 16 goals.

It is reported that Tottenham hopes to complete the deal before the January transfer window closes and has proposed a permanent transfer offer worth 50 million pounds to Bayern. The two sides are still in the preliminary negotiation stage, and Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal are also paying close attention to the progress of the situation.

Ter started Bayern's 3-1 Champions League win over Slovakian side Bratislava on Wednesday night, but Bayern have confirmed that the 19-year-old wants to leave the club.

Bayern's sporting director Max Eberl revealed: "He said he wanted to leave. Now we need to consider whether to let him go and how to deal with the situation."

According to Sky Sports Germany, Bayern are willing to let Terl go and hope to complete the deal with a considerable transfer fee. In 2022, they signed the young striker from Rennes for about 23 million pounds.

Following Spurs' 3-0 win over Elfsborg in the Europa League, manager Angel Postecoglou was asked about Ter's transfer status but he kept a low profile.

Postecoglu said: "Regarding Ter, I have nothing to disclose. My focus is on preparing for tonight's game. There are other people handling these things behind the scenes. My attitude has always been to let them make the decision. If there is any news, I will naturally know it."

Chelsea have long been interested in Terre and had planned to approach Bayern before the French striker expressed his intention to leave. If Terre joins Stamford Bridge, it will help Christopher Nkunku achieve his goal of moving to Bayern.

As for Manchester United, they need to clear out their existing forward players before they can officially join the competition. However, with less than a week left in the transfer window, the transfers of potential departures Alejandro Ganacho and Marcus Rashford are not going smoothly.
