Riot Games is reportedly launching the League of Legends Game Changers tournament system for the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region, aiming to provide official e-sports tournaments and career development paths for female and marginalized gender players.
The Game Changers program was first reported by Sheep Esports, and the project has been in preparation since 2023. Previously, the successful implementation of Game Changers in the VALORANT ecosystem prompted Riot to further expand this program, taking advantage of the trend of more and more e-sports clubs establishing female teams to build a more inclusive and diverse e-sports system for League of Legends.
According to reports, at least three LEC (European top league) clubs have expressed interest in participating in the first League of Legends Game Changers EMEA event, but the specific names of the clubs have not yet been disclosed. Riot plans to invite at least 8 teams to participate in the first season.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time Riot has tried to introduce the Game Changers system in League of Legends. As early as 2021, the company launched the North American LCS Game Changers program, which aims to cultivate and recruit female players into the region's e-sports ecosystem.
The first season is expected to start in April 2024 and will last until May, followed by the second season, which is expected to take place from July to September.
The tournament is expected to adopt a group stage and knockout stage to determine the final champion. At present, the specific prize pool, venue and other details have not yet been announced.
