Liverpool manager Arne Sloter has provided an update on Trent Alexander-Arnold's injury after the team's win over Bournemouth. The right-back was forced off the pitch in the 70th minute with a suspected thigh problem and signalled to the bench that he was unable to continue.
According to The Athletic, Alexander-Arnold will undergo scans to determine the severity of the injury, and Sloter admitted in a post-match interview that the England international may miss Thursday's EFL Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham.
"What happened was he said to me 'you have to take me off' and then sat on the floor and we made the substitution," Sloter said. "He felt something, I can't tell you exactly how bad it was because it was only an hour into the game. But if a player asks to be substituted, it's usually not a good sign."
"I can't say for sure but I would be very surprised if he could play on Thursday. Of course, we hope he can recover and return as soon as possible."
Arnold's injury is undoubtedly a big blow to Liverpool, especially in their upcoming crucial match against Tottenham. In the first leg, Liverpool lost 0-1 away. This time back at Anfield, they must fight hard to advance to the final. The final winner will compete with Arsenal or Newcastle for the championship at Wembley.
