The German powerhouse will host Sporting CP at the Allianz Stadium in a key match of the 6th round of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League. Vincent Kompany stated that Sporting CP is an excellent team in both defense and counter-attack, and therefore urged his players to give 100% performance.
After a goal from Lennart Karl in their previous Champions League match, Bayern Munich ultimately lost 1-3 away to Premier League leaders Arsenal. With four wins and one loss in their last five matches, Bayern Munich currently sits in third place in the standings with 12 points, while Sporting Lisbon is in eighth place with 10 points.
It's worth mentioning that in the earlier Bundesliga match, Bayern Munich, thanks to a hat-trick from Kane, as well as goals from Laimer and Stanišić, ultimately defeated Stuttgart 5-0, successfully facing their Champions League challenge with a resounding victory.
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany stated at a press conference, "Sporting Lisbon is a very complete team. They maintain a high level of compactness in defense and are extremely threatening on the counter-attack. They are very aggressive in their backline and push forward boldly. They used a high press against Benfica. They have excellent players and are fearless in attack, and they also have many young players with bright futures. They are an exciting team, so we must give 100%."
"Statistics suggest that perhaps five wins and one draw would be enough to advance, but I don't want to think that way. We play at home tomorrow, and two of our last three matches have been at home. If we can win tomorrow, we'll be very close to securing a top-eight finish, and everything looks pretty good right now."
When discussing squad rotation, Kompany said, "It depends on the players' form or the characteristics of the opponent, and it will vary. I don't talk much about this topic, and the focus is always on trusting the players. When we win, people will talk about the lineup, which is fine; I like that kind of competition."
“Neuer will play, and we also have a very good young German goalkeeper, Ulbig. Neuer has been performing very well this season, but Ulbig has already had his chances and will continue to get playing time. He played well against Stuttgart, but everything will proceed as planned.”
In addition, Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies, who suffered a cruciate ligament injury in March of this year, has recently returned to the team and participated in training.
Kompany said, "I will speak with Alphonso Davies again later, but he may be included in tomorrow's squad. If the game is intense, and I expect the match against Sporting Lisbon to be very close, then he may not get playing time. But in any case, he will get some playing time this week. Any time before Christmas is an extra bonus."
