Sunderland ultimately defeated Oxford United 1-0 away from home, successfully advancing to the FA Cup Round of 16.
Sunderland manager Lebrides said in an interview, "There are never any easy games in the FA Cup. We played here last season and lost 0-2. The players are prepared for this game, including dealing with long balls and trying to break down our center-backs' tactics."
“The opponents were constantly trying to win back possession, which was basically the main plot of the whole game, and we dealt with that very well in the second half. We had to deal with a lot of long passes and throw-ins, but when we had scoring opportunities, we capitalized on them. The players had great understanding and clearly understood the importance of this tournament.”
In addition, Lebrides said, "This was an important game for us and the fans, which made the game more difficult, but the team showed positive energy."
“We have great respect for this tournament and we fight for each other and for the team badges on our chests. We are looking forward to the results of the draw. The referee blew the whistle to end the first half, and we took a 1-0 lead thanks to Habib Diarra’s penalty.”
