Former Inter Milan Brazil international forward Gabriel Barbosa joins Cruzeiro on a free transfer..

Cruzeiro announced on its official website on Friday that former Inter Milan Brazil international forward Gabriel Barbosa has joined the club as a free agent after leaving Flamengo.

According to the Cruzeiro's official statement, Barbosa has signed on a three-year contract with the club which runs until the winter of 2028.

About Gabriel Barbosa

Barbosa, 28 years old, nicknamed "Gabigol", was born on August 30, 1996 in São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil. He is 1.76 meters tall and primarily plays as a center forward, but can also play as a left or right winger.

Barbosa joined Santos' youth academy at the age of 8 and completed his Santos first-team debut in May 2013.

Barbosa, who has been extremely talented since his debut, quickly gained the reputation as the "New Neymar" with his super high goalscoring efficiency. During this spell, he also won the Campeonato Paulista twice with the club.

At the end of August 2016, Barbosa joined Inter Milan for €29.5 million.

However, due to the overall poor performance of the entire I Nerarruzzuri squad that year, Barbosa, who was still young at the time, was unfairly criticized, causing him to lose confidence and failed to adapt well to the Serie A giants.

On the summer transfer window deadline day the following year, Barbosa was loaned-out to Benfica, but he did not get playing opportunities.

At the end of January 2018, Barbosa returned to Santos on-loan.

After returning to his old club, Barbosa regained his confidence and soon won praise for his high goalscoring efficiency again.

In January of the following year, Barbosa was loaned-out to Flamengo, and later his ownership was officially bought out by Flamengo for 17.5 million euros in January 2020.

In the four years he played for the Rubro-Negro, Barbosa played 306 times for Flamengo in all competitions, scored 161 goals, assisted 43 times, and won the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A twice, the Copa do Brasil twice, the Supercopa do Brasil twice, the Campeonato Carioca four times, the Copa Libertadores twice and the Recopa Sudamericana once with the club.
