The first leg of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League knockout play-offs will usher in another focus battle, and Bayern Munich will travel to challenge Celtic. Kompany said that Celtic is a team that is accustomed to winning, so his team must show their ambition to win in the game.
In the 8th round of the Champions League, Bayern Munich defeated Bratislava 3-1 at the Allianz Arena with goals from Muller, Kane and Kingsley Coman. However, Bayern Munich only finished 12th, so they needed to participate in the play-offs to compete for a place in the top 16 of the Champions League.
However, in the earlier Bundesliga, Bayern Munich relied on Kane and Sane to score and finally defeated Bremen 3-0 at home, and even won seven consecutive games to prepare for the focus battle against Celtic.
In terms of the head-to-head record, Bayern Munich has won both of their last two Champions League matches against Celtic, but it should be noted that Celtic is currently ranked first in the Scottish Premier League standings and has won the last five games, so their ambition to win is just as strong.
"We are facing a team that is used to winning and aggressive, and they have five players who are very capable of scoring goals," Bayern Munich coach Kompany said at a press conference.
"That confidence will carry over into the big games too. Maybe they don't need a deep defence in their own league, but in the big games the teams that dominate that league will still be just as competitive."
Kompany also said: "We will play Celtic twice, so they will come to our home ground to participate in the game, and there will be a fierce atmosphere. We will give them respect, but if we can fully realize the importance of this game, we will not treat it differently from other big games."
"Winning is our goal, and the priority right now is to play well away against Celtic. I hope the team can show the intention to win as soon as possible, but this is only the first game of two rounds, the most important thing is to advance."
