Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford will miss at least two weeks after spraining his right knee in a loss to Sacramento. In addition, Anthony Davis suffered a groin injury in his Dallas debut, leaving the team without its top four big men.
Daniel Gafford will be re-evaluated in two weeks, the Associated Press reported. Daniel Gafford was forced to leave the game against the Sacramento Kings after a knee collision with opposing guard Malik Monk near midcourt in the second quarter.
Daniel Gafford, Anthony Davis, Derrick Lively II and Dwight Powell round out the injured frontcourt for the Dallas Mavericks.
Currently, the only healthy center for the Dallas Mavericks is Kyler Kelly, who signed a two-way contract and played in 5 games for the Dallas Mavericks. Although Kyler Kelly is the team's only center option, he played only one minute against the Sacramento Kings.
Anthony Davis strained his groin against the Houston Rockets and will be out until at least after the All-Star break. This was his first game since Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, and new teammate Kyrie Irving will replace Anthony Davis on the All-Star team.
Derek Lively II was injured in a game against the Denver Nuggets on January 14 and will need to rest for a few weeks before returning. Coach Jason Kidd did not update Dwight Powell's status before the loss to the Sacramento Kings. Jason Kidd did not attend his mandatory post-game media conference after the game.
Before the All-Star Game, the Dallas Mavericks will face the Golden State Warriors and the Miami Heat.
