After 14 years of hard work and dedication for West Ham United, Finley Herrick has finally made it into the first team. The young goalkeeper joined the club's youth academy at the age of six and spent many years at training grounds such as Chadwell Heath, Little Heath, and Rashgreen, as well as traveling with the team to stadiums across the country and even overseas.
He has always dreamed of wearing the gloves for West Ham United. A member of the team that won both the FA Youth Cup and the U18 Premier League double in 2023, he has made nearly 70 appearances for West Ham United's youth and development teams.
Finley Herrick's ability and character have earned him international recognition, having represented Spain at various age levels from U16 to U20. This season, he was loaned to National League promotion contenders Borrehamwood, where he performed admirably, keeping five clean sheets in ten appearances. He then returned to West Ham United, where he helped the U21 team reach the National League Cup final.
Finley Herrick had been a substitute in the first three rounds of the UAE FA Cup. However, he made a surprise debut in Sunday's sixth-round match against Leeds United. With one minute left in extra time, Herrick was brought on as Alphonse Areola went down injured and immediately made a crucial save, successfully denying Joel Piro's first penalty.
Ultimately, West Ham United narrowly lost 2-4 in a penalty shootout. However, for 20-year-old Finley Herrick, it was undoubtedly an unforgettable experience for him and all his supporters.
When asked about his feelings after such a tense match, Finley Herrick said: "Overall, it's a mixed feeling. I made my debut and I'm very excited. I've been with the club for many years, but I hope to contribute more to the team. Reaching the semi-finals at Wembley Stadium is a dream for many players here."
“This year has been a bit uncertain for me. I was loaned out relatively late and played as a youth team player, so I left after the transfer window closed. I was recalled after playing ten games and have been waiting for my chance ever since. I trained with the first team and tried my best to contribute to the team. Now that the opportunity has come, I don’t even know how to express my feelings.”
“I joined the club’s youth academy when I was six years old, and I’ve played in almost every age group. Although I tried my best to stay calm, my debut was very meaningful to me, especially since my family was watching. I was very nervous at the time, and I believe they were too.”
“The experienced players in the team guide me every day, and as a young player, I have benefited a lot from it. In addition to the coach, they have also always given me support and help. I hope to contribute more to the team, and I hope that saving the first penalty will satisfy them.”
