In Friday night's Premier League match, Constantinos Mavropanos and Tati Castellanos both scored twice, helping West Ham United to a crucial 4-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. After the match, captain Jarrod Bowen praised the team's performance.
West Ham United displayed composure and patience throughout the match, gradually shaking off the tension of the early stages. Towards the end of the first half, Constantinos Mavropanos broke the deadlock, the Greek international heading in a cross from Jarrod Bowen in the 42nd minute, beating Jose Sá in goal.
Nuno Espirito Santo's team continued their strong performance from the first half into the second, extending their lead to 3-0 with two quick goals from Tati Castellanos. Jarrod Bowen provided his second assist of the night before the Argentine striker scored his second goal. Constantinos Mavropanos then added another, completing his third goal in three matches.
After a disappointing FA Cup exit by Leeds United over Easter, West Ham's captain was delighted with his team's performance back at the London stadium. The victory secured three crucial points in their fight to avoid relegation.
Jarrod Bowen said: “We were disappointed that we couldn’t go to Wembley last weekend, but we knew the importance of this game. With seven games left in the league, we also knew what we needed to accomplish. We were very eager to play, and although we were a little nervous at the start, our confidence grew as we gradually adapted to the rhythm of the game. We took the lead and then scored three more goals to secure the victory.”
“I think opening the scoring always boosts team confidence and improves the overall mood. We knew the game would be very close, given Wolves’ recent good form, so we had to stay calm and stick to our tactics. I think we executed the plan well and it paid off in the end, which is very satisfying.”
After the match, Jarrod Bowen highly praised the two goal scorers of the night, especially Constantinos Mavropanos for his attacking threat, while also acknowledging the positive impact Tati Castellanos has had on the team since joining from Lazio in the winter transfer window.
West Ham United will face Crystal Palace away on April 21. The England international says he and his teammates are fully prepared and will give their all in the remaining six games of the season.
He added, “Constantinos Mavropanos always manages to be in the ideal position in the penalty area. I kept reminding him to push forward boldly because his timing and heading ability are excellent. As for the final shot, that’s entirely up to him. He fully deserves those two goals and the Man of the Match award because his performance was outstanding.”
“Tati has been outstanding for us. He is extremely efficient, and I think that’s why the fans love him. His goal tonight was well-deserved, especially after his goal against Leeds United was disallowed, which was a regrettable experience. He deserves all the credit.”
"As a team, we know what we need to do right now. We can't ignore our current situation, and we understand that there are still many problems to solve. But we played well tonight, and we look forward to playing again next week."
