Liverpool will host French champions Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield in the second leg of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League quarter-final. Hungarian star Szoboszlai stated that he understands his team's capabilities and therefore needs to show the fighting spirit to turn the tide in the match.
In the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, Liverpool conceded two goals to Due and Kvalatschlia, ultimately losing 0-2 to defending champions Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes.
However, in the earlier Premier League match, Liverpool relied on goals from Ngumoha and Salah to defeat Fulham 2-0, successfully returning to winning ways.
When asked about his confidence in a comeback, Liverpool midfielder Szoboszlai said, "Personally, I'm absolutely confident. Because I know what we can do, what kind of players we have, and what kind of mentality we have. We've proven that many times, maybe not every time, but many times, and that's exactly the spirit we need to show from the start of tomorrow's game."
“We talk to each other every day, and the first thing we talk about is tomorrow’s game. We definitely talk about Paris Saint-Germain more often than Everton because after playing them, it was Fulham, not Everton. We always look at the game one step at a time because the most important task right now is tomorrow. After tomorrow, we’ll think about Everton, which is also a very important game. It’s an away derby and a battle for Champions League qualification, so we need to be prepared for that too.”
Willing to assume the role of leader
Szoboszlai said, "Anfield will definitely have a huge impact, and we've seen that countless times this season and before. Tomorrow it's not just the 11 players on the pitch or the substitutes, but the entire stadium will be involved. We know very well what it means to play for Liverpool, to play in front of the fans, and to play at Anfield. I don't think we need any extra motivation; we already know that feeling."
"We must give it our all and give it our all. When the competition is over, if you can tell yourself that you've given it your all but still haven't made it, then you can still walk away with your head held high and say that you did your best. As I said, we really need everyone's efforts, and I still firmly believe that there is a great chance tomorrow."
It's worth noting that Salah and Robertson will leave Liverpool after many years at the end of this season.
Regarding whether he will assume a leadership role in the future, Szoboszlai said, "I think I can. I have been the national team captain for four or five years and have some experience in how to take on this role. But as long as we still have players like Salah, Robertson, Van Dijk, Alisson and Gomez, we have enough experience this season."
“I’d be happy to take on more responsibility and support them, perhaps acting as a bridge between them and younger players. I’m willing to do that if they need me, and they know I’m very happy to step up.”
