Inter Milan defender De Vrij recently talked about the team's performance in the UEFA Champions League in an interview, and said that the "Nerazzurri" will shoulder greater responsibilities in this season's Champions League.
In the Champions League knockout play-offs, Serie A giants AC Milan, Atalanta and Juventus were eliminated by Feyenoord, Brugge and PSV Eindhoven respectively and failed to advance to the round of 16, while Inter Milan coached by Inzaghi became the only Serie A team in the top 16 of the Champions League.
It is worth mentioning that the UEFA Champions League round of 16 will be drawn, and Inter Milan's potential opponents will be Feyenoord or PSV Eindhoven from the Dutch Eredivisie.
"After other Italian teams were eliminated, we knew we would have a greater responsibility, and I really feel sorry for those teams that were eliminated," said 33-year-old Dutch defender De Vrij.
"From a personal point of view, I am very happy to play against a Dutch team. Whether it is PSV or Feyenoord, they are very strong opponents."
De Vrij continued, "The youth training system in the Netherlands is very good, while we focus more on technical training. However, since coming to Italy, my understanding of tactics has greatly improved. The Italian tactical system is completely different from what we are used to. It is a whole new world."
On the other hand, Inter Milan will face Genoa at home in the new round of Serie A, and then participate in the Italian Cup quarter-finals.
