Newcastle United released a statement confirming that they have completed the contract extension with Martin Dubravka. The contract between the two parties was originally due to expire this summer, but has now been extended to June 30, 2026.
Martin Dubravka, 36, is a 1.91-meter-tall goalkeeper who made his debut at Slovak Super League giants Žilina in 2009. After helping Žilina win two Slovak Super League titles and one Slovak Cup, he moved to Esbjerg and then played for Liberec and Sparta Prague.
In July 2018, Dubravka joined Newcastle United from Sparta Prague for 4 million euros. So far, he has made 178 appearances for Newcastle United and kept 54 clean sheets.
Dubravka was also loaned to Manchester United by Newcastle United in the 2022 season. He spent half a year at Manchester United, during which time he only played in two League Cup games and won the championship with the team.
After completing the contract extension, Dubravka said: "I am very happy to continue to stay at Newcastle United. I have had positive exchanges with the coach and the sports director, and we all agree that staying is the best option."
"I have a special connection with the club, the staff and the fans. My children were born in Newcastle and they are already true 'Highlanders'. Newcastle United holds a special place in my heart."
"I think the team is in good form at the moment. We are doing well in the league and we are playing in two cup competitions, which is exciting."
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe explained: "Martin is a high-level goalkeeper who has contributed outstanding performances to Newcastle United for many years. He recently returned to the team and performed well, proving his value in the goalkeeping team."
Dubravka was close to joining Young Boys in the winter transfer window this year. Eddie Howe said: "As we all know, he had the opportunity to leave in January. But he remained focused, which is highly commendable. We are very happy that Martin chose to stay."
