Anthony Edwards receives his 16th technical foul and is automatically suspended for one game

The NBA announced on Friday that Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards was automatically suspended for one game without pay for his 16th technical foul of the season in the game against the Los Angeles Lakers, which means he will miss the Timberwolves' game against the Utah Jazz.

NBA rules stipulate that when a player accumulates 16 technical fouls in a season, he will be automatically suspended for one game, and for every two additional technical fouls, he will be suspended for an additional game. In the Timberwolves' 102-111 loss to the Lakers on Thursday, Edwards received his 16th technical foul of the season in the third quarter and was automatically ejected.

It is worth mentioning that Edwards said he would not receive technical fouls again after being fined $50,000 for an indecent gesture on January 13. However, he has accumulated 5 violations this season and has been fined a total of $285,000. This suspension has once again dealt a blow to the team.

After the game, Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said in an interview that Edwards' emotional management needs to be improved: "He must do better. He loses control of his emotions too many times, and many of them are reasonable penalties."

"The referee sometimes misses some calls, which is normal. We have been communicating with him about this issue, and in the end it depends on him to make the adjustments."

Edwards' second technical foul was due to his dissatisfaction with the referee. With 5 minutes and 21 seconds left in the third quarter, he thought Lakers guard Gabe Vincent should be called for a blocking foul during a breakthrough, but the referee did not make a call. James Williams, head of the referee team, said after the game that Edwards was given a second technical foul for "using inappropriate language to the referee" and was directly ejected.

Finch expressed his dissatisfaction with this: "That was an obvious blocking foul. If the referee had called it, none of these subsequent events would have happened."
