On the evening of March 13th, Beijing time, the League of Legends Professional League (LPL) officially announced the update of the competition system for the 2025 season. This update mainly involves the specific rules of the second and third stages, and the LPL also elaborated on this in detail.

According to the official announcement, the second and third stages of the 2025 LPL will continue to use the "Fearless Draft Mode" introduced in the first stage, prohibiting the repeated use of the same hero in the series. The side selection rules will also continue the format of the "SOLO side selection game" and will no longer use the traditional coin toss or ranking priority.

Second stage competition system description

In the announcement, the second and third stages of the 2025 LPL season undoubtedly occupy a core position: in the group stage, all teams will be divided into groups based on the results of the first stage and will start a BO1 double round-robin match. The third place in each group must participate in the summit promotion match to compete for the remaining two places in the summit group. Next is the group match. The top four teams in the summit group will directly advance to the knockout stage, and the bottom two teams in the Nirvana group will be eliminated.

Then enter the "Knight's Road" stage, the last six teams in the summit group will have to play a BO5 match with the top two teams in the Nirvana group, and the four winning teams will advance to the knockout stage. The knockout stage adopts a double-elimination system, and the winner will lock in the MSI No. 1 seed seat, and the loser in the final will become the No. 2 seed.

The third stage of the competition system

When the season enters the third stage, the competition officially enters a white-hot stage. According to the official explanation of LPL, the top eight teams in the second stage knockout stage will directly advance to the summit group, and the rest of the teams will be divided into the Nirvana group. The top four teams in the summit group will directly advance to the playoffs, and the remaining four places must be decided by the BO5 duel between the bottom four teams in the summit group and the top four teams in the Nirvana group in the Knight Road stage. In the end, the eight qualified teams will compete for the 2025 LPL championship in the double elimination playoffs.
