Kevin Gameiro issued a statement on Monday, announcing his retirement from professional football effective immediately.
Kevin Gameiro, 37, was born in Senlis, France, and plays as a center forward. He made his debut from Strasbourg in September 2005, and then played for Lorient, Paris Saint-Germain, Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Valencia and other teams.
So far, Gameiro has made 715 appearances at the club level, including 32 Champions League games, 51 Europa League games, 305 Ligue 1 games and 237 La Liga games. He has contributed 240 goals and 78 assists, and has won 4 Europa League titles, 1 Ligue 1 title and 1 Copa del Rey title with the team.
As for the national team, Gameiro has played 13 times for France and scored 3 goals.
However, Gameiro has been a free agent since leaving Strasbourg in July 2024. After being unemployed for nearly eight months, he decided to end his 20-year career and wrote in a statement: "From Strasbourg to Valencia, via Lorient, Paris Saint-Germain, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid, every moment on the field is deeply engraved in my memory and even more in my heart."
"However, it is now time to close this magnificent chapter of my life with pride and a little bit of regret."
“I must thank everyone who has been with me during my career: my academy, my club, my teammates (special thanks to my academy roommate and now partner Khaled), all my coaches, the French national team that I had the pleasure of playing for, the technical and medical staff, my agent and image consultant. But most of all my fans, who have always supported me and given me endless love.”
"Of course, my parents, without whom my childhood dreams would never have come true; my brother, who has always been my biggest supporter; my grandparents, whom I miss terribly; and other family and friends."
"My wife and two sons, you have given me support, encouragement, companionship, love, and especially endless tolerance, allowing me to devote myself to this career. I love you."
"It's time to turn over a new leaf, but my love for football will never die."
