Brighton released a statement on Friday announcing the signing of 18-year-old South Korean winger Yoon Do-young from Daejeon Asiana Citizen. Both parties signed a five-year contract until June 30, 2030.
Daejeon Asiana Citizens is a Korean professional football club founded in 1997 and currently competes in the K1 League. Yoon Do-young will play for Daejeon Citizens until the end of June and will officially join Brighton on July 1. His transfer fee is reportedly £2 million.
According to TA's previous report, Brighton hopes to further expand the Asian market by signing Yoon So-young and pave the way for discovering more Asian new stars.
Following the transfer, Brighton technical director David Weir said: "Yoon Do-young is widely regarded as one of the best young players in Asia and we are delighted that he has chosen to join Brighton."
David Weir then added that Yoon Do-young will be loaned out after joining this summer: "We will closely monitor his development in the Korean league so far this summer and look for a suitable loan opportunity for him next season."
Yoon Do-young joined the youth training system of Daejeon Citizen at the age of 14, and made his debut for the first team in the K1 League on May 25, 2024. To date, he has made 23 appearances for Daejeon Citizen, scoring 1 goal and providing 3 assists.
Yoon Do-young has also played 27 games for South Korea at all levels, contributing a total of 13 goals. Earlier this month, he contributed 1 goal and 1 assist in 5 games in the U20 Asian Cup, helping South Korea advance to the semi-finals.
