Rodrigo Bentancur was taken off the pitch against Liverpool on a stretcher and will be taken to hospital for further assessments

Tottenham Hotspur's Rodrigo Bentancur was stretchered off within 15 minutes of their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool.  

Rodrigo Bentancur tried to head the ball near the goal post from a corner, but his body swayed slightly when he landed and he did not stand up again. Rodrigo Bentancur was treated by the medical team on the field and then carried off the field on a stretcher. Fans from all corners of the stadium stood up and applauded him.  

Coach Angel Postecoglou gave an update on Rodrigo Bentancur's condition, saying: "All I know is that Rodrigo Bentancur was conscious when he left the pitch. At present, Rodrigo Bentancur has been taken for observation, but the specific situation is not clear to me, so we hope that he will be fine."  

“It was a head injury and it was something that was very worrying for the players on the field so something must have happened.”

After the game, coach Angel Postecoglou revealed the latest news, saying that Rodrigo Bentancur is conscious and able to speak, and will go to the hospital for further examination.
