Emiliano Martinez: I'm proud to be part of Aston Villa

Emiliano Martinez, who currently plays for Aston Villa, said he was very proud to be part of the club when he reflected on the club's 150th anniversary.  

Emiliano Martínez arrived at Aston Villa more than four years ago and has played a major role in the team's collective progress on the pitch, continuing to achieve outstanding results for club and country. Aston Villa will celebrate the club's 150th anniversary in the FA Cup at home to West Ham United.  

This also prompted Emiliano Martinez to look back on his time at the club. He said: "It's really amazing. When I came here, the team was not like this. I am proud to be part of this journey. The season before I came, the team was ranked 17th, and then we gradually improved and rose in the rankings, 11th, 14th, 7th, 4th."  

Emiliano Martinez won his second FIFA Best Goalkeeper Award shortly before the end of the 2024 season, having earlier won the historic Yashin Trophy back-to-back.  

Furthermore, Emiliano Martinez spoke about how it felt to play in the B6 and said: "This feeling is really special. I always say in the dressing room that we are strong at home and we don't lose many games. It's exciting to get the fans excited in the first few minutes because we know how important the fans are to us."  

“The loudest noise I heard at Aston Villa Park was in the last five minutes of the game against Bayern Munich. I remember taking a free-kick outside the box and the atmosphere was the same as I felt in Argentina. It was great to see the flames and fireworks going off at Aston Villa Park.”  

"It makes a world of difference in our stadium and Champions League nights are special. Whoever plays knows the atmosphere is going to be great."  

Emiliano Martinez has stated that he hopes to win a trophy at Aston Villa, which is his wish and one of his main goals at the club. After being disappointed with the second round defeat at home to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup in October, Emiliano Martinez sees the FA Cup as another opportunity to help Aston Villa fans create good memories.  

Emiliano Martinez said: "I want to win trophies for Aston Villa and I want to do well in the cup competitions. I was very frustrated when we were eliminated by Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup. I think the fans should at least come to Wembley Stadium at the end of the season. This is something the club has lacked for many years.  

"We've won the Champions League before and this is the second time we've won it after 42 years. But I've won trophies before so I know the fans and myself and that's the feeling I want to bring to Aston Villa."
