Former Liverpool goalkeeper Sandor Westerveld has reflected on the Liverpool Legends vs Chelsea Legends match, which saw the club beat Chelsea Legends 2-0, and said it was a memorable day for both himself and the Liverpool Foundation.
The goalkeeper reacted impressively in this game to save a powerful header from Robert Huth to ensure a clean sheet for himself and the other goalkeepers.
"It was a perfect day, we kept a clean sheet," said Sandor Westerveld. "I don't know how I did it, it was my reflexes, I didn't know I had them."
"I was disappointed with my first save, I was so scrambled and had to save it twice. But, I'm glad I made that save because it helped the team. It was a great win with a packed house and it was great that the foundation got so much money at the same time."
"It's a really great day for me, and I miss those games. We don't miss preseason games or training camps over the holidays, but we will miss the sight of this stadium full of people, and the sight of these people contributing to the community and helping the foundation raise money."
“It’s been a real privilege to be here at Anfield Community Centre and see what they do with the money. It’s something really meaningful so I’m really proud of it and hope to be doing this for a long time.”
