Official: Premier League will add a temporary transfer window this summer to cooperate with the 2025 Club World Cup

The Premier League officially announced on Thursday that a temporary transfer window will be added this summer.

Various signs indicate that the Premier League's move to add a temporary transfer window is to match the schedule of the 2025 Club World Cup. The 2025 Club World Cup will be held in 12 stadiums in 11 cities in the United States from June 15 to July 13, with the opening match between Miami International and Cairo National. This year's tournament has been expanded to 32 teams for the first time, with seats allocated as 12 teams from Europe, 6 teams from South America, 5 teams from Central and North America, 4 teams from Asia, 4 teams from Africa, and 1 team from Oceania.

As an incentive for participation, FIFA has approved the establishment of temporary transfer windows for leagues in various countries. After a vote by the shareholders' meeting, the Premier League summer transfer window will be divided into two stages:

Phase 1: Open from June 1 to 10, followed by a 5-day closure;

Phase 2: Restart on June 16 and last until officially closing on September 1.

The Premier League's move will not only help the participating teams in the Club World Cup (Manchester City and Chelsea) to successfully complete the signings before the game, but also ensure that the total length of the summer window meets the 12-week requirement stipulated by FIFA. According to the original arrangement, this year's summer window should have ended on August 24, but in order to be consistent with other European leagues, the Premier League decided to adopt the plan of closing the window and then restarting.

According to British media reports, the temporary transfer window applies to all Premier League teams, not just the teams participating in the Club World Cup. This arrangement is intended to prevent Manchester City and Chelsea from benefiting from special rules.

The 2025/26 Premier League season is scheduled to kick off on August 16.
