Youri Tielemans has praised Aston Villa manager Unai Emery for his influence on the team ahead of their clash against Paris Saint-Germain. For the four-time European champion, it marks a return to the club he coached between 2016 and 2018.
Unai Emery spent two and a half years at Villa, taking the club from the bottom of the Premier League to the quarter-finals of Europe's top division.
Asked in the pre-match press conference how much confidence Unai Emery would bring to the team, Youri Tielemans replied: "Very confident, he already knows what the game will look like at this stage. Unai Emery has made a plan and we are ready for this game."
Luca Digne, Axel Disasi and Boubacar Camara are all likely to feature against PSG. Youri Tielemans praised his teammates' performance, saying: "I think Luca Digne has been playing very well and very consistently since I arrived here."
"Luca Digne has worked hard to integrate into the team and he has done really well, especially in the past year or so. Luca Digne has become Unai Emery's first-choice left-back and he has performed well. Luca Digne is also very proud to return to the national team, which I think is the result of his hard work."
"Also, Boubacar Kamara is a great player and it's really easy for me to play with him. We know each other well and he's a player who can receive the ball and lead the team."
Youri Tielemans was also asked how he and his teammates managed to perform so well in the game. He said: "I think it was just the right performance at the right moment. We have some experienced players and I think you can see it in the performance we played in the game.
"I think the key is our focus and mentality during the game. We know we are facing a strong team, so we need to be ready at all times."
