In the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, Real Madrid lost 1-2 to Arsenal and failed to advance to the semi-finals with a total score of 1-5. Coach Ancelotti encouraged the players to hold their heads high and learn lessons from the failure.
At the press conference after the game, Ancelotti admitted: "It is disappointing to be eliminated from the Champions League. This is a normal emotional reaction. This is part of football. There are happiness and sadness. We must face the loss of failure as we manage the joy of victory."
"They were better than us overall. We did try our best and if the penalty had gone in it could have changed the tempo of the game, but Arsenal defended very well and it was difficult for us to find space. Although our intensity increased, it was still not enough."
Talking about the players' mental state and the next goal, Ancelotti stressed that the team must maintain a positive attitude, saying: "I told the players that now is not the time to analyze technical details. We must accept this defeat and possible setbacks in the future."
"It's important to hold our heads high, because our performance in the Champions League in recent years is something to be proud of. In the world of sports, this situation is normal, no team is always invincible. This year we have to learn to bear and endure, but also to keep working hard."
Although Real Madrid was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Champions League this season, Ancelotti believes that this does not mean that the season has failed, and Real Madrid still has the opportunity to compete for honors on other fronts. Real Madrid still has three important events, namely the La Liga, the King's Cup final and the Club World Cup, which are all worthy of their full efforts.
