The inaugural League of Legends Korea Championship (LCK) cup, which will select a team to represent the popular online gaming company Riot Games in a new international tournament, will kick off on Wednesday.
According to official news, 10 Korean teams including the defending world champion T1 will participate in the LCK Cup, which will last until February 23.
The winning team will represent LCK in the first "First Stand Tournament", a new international tournament for League of Legends that will be held starting in the 2025 season. The first First Stand Tournament will be held in Seoul, South Korea in March.
It is worth noting that the LCK Cup will introduce the "Fearless Draft" rule for the first time, which aims to promote the diversification of team lineups and play styles. According to this rule, teams are not allowed to reuse the same hero lineup in consecutive games.
This year's LCK Cup will be held in the form of a group stage, with participating teams divided into two groups. The top three teams in each group will advance directly to the playoffs, while the remaining teams will compete for the remaining three playoff spots through the play-offs.
The innovative rules and internationalization goals of this event add highlights to the LCK Cup, and also lay the foundation for the upcoming global premiere.
