Andoni Iraola says injured players will not play against Newcastle United

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is understood to have said his injured players will not be involved in the game against Newcastle United.

With a number of first-team players set to miss the game against Newcastle United, the manager was asked in his pre-match press conference if he expected any players to return. Andoni Iraola said: "No, we are not going to rescue anyone from the events of that day. There were only three days, so no."

"Half of the teams in the Premier League have seven, eight or nine injured players. But we have a very short squad so it's more serious than other teams. Chelsea had six or seven injured players the other day but you didn't notice it because they still had 23 players available.

"We had six or seven players injured, which was a big deal for us. I think the busy schedule definitely played a role."

"If you're playing every three or four days, especially in December or January, the demands of the game and the way we play the players is very demanding, but that's the way it is for every team."

"Football is accepting that we will lose a lot of players but the game will go on. No matter how many injuries we face, the game will go on. We have to adapt and keep going and that's what we are trying to do at the moment."
