The 2025 Esports World Cup (EWC) "Dota 2" event officially kicked off on July 8, with 16 top teams from around the world gathering together to compete on the first day of the group round-robin tournament.
The results of the first day revealed the strong strength of many traditional powerhouses, among which PARIVISION, Aurora Gaming, Tundra Esports and Team Liquid all defeated their opponents 2-0 and temporarily topped the list in each group.
In Group A, Team Spirit and Xtreme Gaming tied 1-1, and Talon Esports and NAVI also tied. The four teams were evenly matched and it was difficult to tell who was better. Group B was also stalemate, with BetBoom and Gaimin Gladiators, and Execration and Team Falcons all shaking hands and making peace.
Group C was comprised of the European powerhouse Tundra Esports and the Eastern European powerhouse Aurora Gaming, who both advanced by defeating Virtus.pro and Team Yandex in straight sets respectively, demonstrating their strong dominance.
In the focus match of Group D, PARIVISION easily defeated HEROIC, and Team Liquid even achieved the first pentakill (Rampage) of this tournament against Shopify Rebellion, completely suppressing the opponent.
The group stage adopts a best-of-two round-robin system. The top team in each group will directly advance to the knockout stage, while the rest of the teams will enter the elimination stage to fight for survival. Dota 2 is one of the first events in this year's EWC, with a total prize of up to 3 million US dollars. The competition period lasts from July 8 to July 19.
