16-year-old prodigy MaiL09 challenges FACEIT's youngest champion record

16-year-old Swedish Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) player MaiL09 has recently become a hot topic in the esports world. The rifler, who plays for the Norwegian team Metizport, topped the FACEIT global leaderboard on September 2nd.

MaiL09's ELO score reached 4860, putting him just one step away from becoming the youngest champion in the platform's history. MaiL09 has been hailed as a prodigy since his debut, having represented GODSENT and Johnny Speeds in regional tournaments.

In June 2025, MaiL09 helped his team win the Svenska Elitserien Spring Championship, solidifying his position as a rising star among Sweden's emerging players. To date, he has played over 3,500 games on the FACEIT platform, boasting a 57% win rate, surpassing many professional players, including Team Spirit's zweih.

According to FACEIT's official social media, if MaiL09 can maintain his top spot by the end of this season, he will break the record held by Russian player Donk. Donk once dominated the FACEIT Season 5 leaderboard with an ELO score of 5283, surpassing well-known players kyousuke and m0NESY.

While MaiL09 is aiming for the FACEIT record, he hasn't stopped grinding in regular tournaments. Metizport currently ranks 79th in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) and still needs to make a push to break into the top 32 to qualify for the StarLadder Budapest Major in November.

Metizport will be taking part in a series of secondary tournaments in September, including the European Pro League Season 2, which kicks off on the 6th, and the ESL Challenger League Season 50 Cup 2, which begins on the 8th. For MaiL09, maintaining his lead in the FACEIT rankings while also helping the team achieve further breakthroughs is crucial.
