Well-known whistleblower Sandstrxm exclusively revealed on Friday through Swedish esports media outlet Fragbite that the country's esports powerhouse, GODSENT, has entered bankruptcy proceedings.
According to Sandstrxm's report, GODSENT had been facing serious financial problems as early as the spring of 2024 and had been struggling to stay afloat by scraping money from one pocket to pay another.
It wasn't until several former players filed a lawsuit through the Swedish Enforcement Authority against GODSENT a few months ago, alleging months of unpaid wages, that the government intervened. A recent trial at the Malmö District Court ordered GODSENT to promptly pay all outstanding wages, bonuses, and remuneration owed to the players and to declare bankruptcy.
Sandstrxm also revealed that GODSENT had participated in a small tournament in Sweden as recently as June, after announcing the disbanding of its original Counter Strike 2 team roster in December of last year.
At the time, GODSENT's roster included Brazilian players TACO, dumau, and HEN1, who had previously played for the club between 2021 and 2022.
These players were all bought out by 00 Nation in 2022 due to their outstanding performances.
Dust 2 added that they had attempted to contact GODSENT regarding Sandstrxm's revelations, but the organization had not responded by press time.
If Sandstrxm's revelations are true, this would mark the end of the Swedish esports powerhouse, founded in April 2016 by former Fnatic ace In-Game Leader pronax.
Founded in 2016, GODSENT has long been one of Europe's top Counter Strike esports teams.
Since its founding, GODSENT has won titles at the Qi Invitational Belgrade 2018, WePlay! Forge of Masters Season 2, LOOT.BET Season 7, and the DreamHack Open North America in September 2021.
In a month leading up to its disbandment in December 2024, GODSENT experienced mixed results in ESEA Development League Season 51, European C-tier events, and European Pro League Season 23, marking one of the team's lowest points.
