In the Crystal Palace match against Brentford, the team lost to Brentford 1-2. Manager Oliver Glasner said that the team made too many mistakes in the penalty area.
The game took a turn when Brentford were awarded a penalty in the 60th minute. Brian Mbomo's first-time shot hit the post, but VAR ruled it offside and called for a re-take, which ultimately saw Brentford score. Kevin Schade headed in a cross from Mikel Damsgaard.
Oliver Glasner said: "I think the team played OK, but it was not the best performance. Especially in the first two minutes of the penalty, we made too many mistakes in the penalty area. We failed to clear the ball and then caused a penalty."
"Everything went wrong with the penalty, but the first three or four were our mistakes and nobody should be blamed for that. It was difficult when we were behind against Brentford and we hadn't created many chances throughout the game."
"Their reaction after the second goal was great and we tried everything after Roman Essai's goal but it wasn't accurate enough. We had some set-pieces but we weren't good enough in those situations to equalise and that's why we lost the game."
Roman Essai's opener was the highlight for Crystal Palace as the winger got his side back into the game after just a few minutes on the pitch. Oliver Glasner said after the game that he had been planning on giving his new signing some minutes.
Oliver Glasner said: "Of course, we knew he would get some playing time. We thought he could contribute to the team in attack together with Daichi Kamada, so we also changed the formation to 4-4-2 with Eddie Nketiah as the second striker."
"We knew that in this situation there could be an overabundance of attacks at the far post and we managed to find Daniel Munoz. Roman Essé made a good run and then a good finish, which is good for him and gives him confidence. Also, it will help us in the next few weeks."
Oliver Glasner also praised the home fans, who supported the team in the stands despite the bad weather in the second half of the match.
Oliver Glasner said: "They encouraged us to go forward and try to equalise. So thanks to the fans for supporting us again in not the best conditions. They stayed and believed in us, we couldn't repay them today, but we will try to get the win in the next game."
