Girona announced on its official website on Sunday that Juventus' Brazil international defensive midfielder Arthur Melo has joined the club on-loan.
According to Girona's official statement, Arthur will play for the club on-loan until the end of this season, and the loan agreement does not include a buyout clause.
After completing the joining procedures, Arthur, who was interviewed by Girona's official website for the first time, said: "I want to thank Girona for the efforts they made to bring me here, so that I can join a team that is getting stronger and better."
"My first conversation with Michel (head coach) was very important so that I could come to Girona. I told him that I could help and everything went well."
"First of all, I want to do things well before the end of the La Liga and focus on the remaining four months."
"Physically I feel good. For me, I can play tomorrow, but I understand that it will take some time to adapt, which depends on the coach."
"We have to work 100% to achieve great things, and qualifying for the European competitions again is one of them."
"I like Girona's game; possession, connection between players, I can play at my best."
"Girona has a high level and we have great players."
About Arthur Melo
The 28-year-old Arthur was born on April 20, 1996 in Goiania, Brazil. He is 1.71 meters tall and plays as a defensive midfielder.
Arthur joined Gremio's youth academy at the age of 14 and completed his Gremio first-team debut in 2015.
Arthur, who has excellent and accurate passing abilities, has been compared with his former teammate Thiago since his debut. During this spell, he won the Copa do Brasil, the Copa Libertadores and the Recopa Sudamericana with the club once each.
In the summer of 2018, Arthur joined Barcelona for €40 million.
Although he performed well for the La Liga giants, Arthur was mercilessly criticized since the beginning of his spell at Barcelona due to the club's practice of getting tired of the old and loving the new.
In the summer of 2020, Arthur was controversially sold to Juventus by former Barcelona president Jose Maria Bartomeu for €82 million plus a swap deal for Miralem Pjanic.
After coming to I Bianconeri, Arthur's performances has been mediocre because he failed to adapt to the rhythm of the Serie A, coupled with injuries and the fact that he has never been able to gain the absolute trust of any head coach.
On the 2022 summer transfer window deadline day, Arthur joined Liverpool on-loan with an option to buy.
However, affected by the continued injuries setbacks, Arthur has only played for the Reds' first-team once. Despite this, his dedication and willingness to volunteer to play for the Premier League giants' U21 team as an over-age player have received a lot of praise.
In July 2023, Arthur was loaned-out to Fiorentina.
During his time with I Viola, Arthur reached the UEFA Europa Conference League final with the club.
After returning to the club following his loan spell the following summer, Arthur was completely frozen out by Juventus because he fell out of head coach Thiago Motta's favour.
Since becoming a member of the I Bianconeri, Arthur has played 63 times for the Serie A giants in all competitions so far, scoring 1 goal, assisting 1 time, as well as winning the Coppa Italia once and the Supercoppa Italiana once with the club.
