PSV Eindhoven announced on its official website on Sunday that former Arsenal Spanish forward Lucas Perez has joined the club as a free agent after leaving Deportivo La Coruña following his contract expiration.
According to the defending Eredivisie champions' official statement, Perez has signed on a short-term contract with the club which will only run until the end of this season. At the same time, he will also wear the No. 27 jersey.
About Lucas Perez
Lucas Perez, 36, was born on September 10, 1988 in A Coruña, Spain. He is 1.80 meters tall and primarily plays as a center forward. He can also play as a right winger.
Perez played for the youth academies of three local non-league clubs in A Coruña when he was a child. After being released in 2007, he joined Atlético Madrid and played for its C team.
In the summer of 2009, Perez moved to Rayo Vallecano and played for its B team. In February 2010, he completed his Rayo Vallecano first-team debut by coming on as a substitute.
After leaving the club following his contract expiration in January 2011, Perez joined Karpaty Lviv as a free agent.
In January 2013, Perez was loaned-out to Dynamo Kyiv, but he was not given a fair chance to play, hence he described the loan experience as a "terrible nightmare" in a later interview.
In July of the same year, Perez joined PAOK Thessaloniki for €700,000, and during this spell, he helped the club reach the Greek Cup final.
In July 2014, Perez was loaned-out to Deportivo La Coruña. After that, his ownership was officially bought out in the summer of the following year.
During his two-year stint at Deportivo La Coruña, Perez helped the club successfully avoid relegation with his high goalscoring efficiency.
In August 2016, Perez joined Arsenal for £17.1 million.
Although he won the FA Cup once with the Gunners, Perez did not perform well during his time at the Premier League giants.
On the following year's summer transfer window deadline day, Perez was loaned back to Deportivo La Coruña.
In August 2018, Perez moved to West Ham United for £4 million.
In June of the following year, Perez joined Alaves for €2.5 million.
After leaving the club after terminating his contract in August 2021, Perez joined Elche as a free agent, but moved to Cadiz as a free agent in January of the following year.
In January 2023, Perez returned to Deportivo La Coruña as a free agent.
Throughout the six-year which he had played for Deportivo La Coruña, Perez played 172 times for the Spanish Segunda Division club in all competitions, scored 62 goals, provided 53 assists, and won the Spanish Third Division once with the club.
