Bayern Munich board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has publicly stated that Florian Wirtz is exactly the player Bayern want to bring in, but admitted that signing him will be a "difficult" task.
Bayern Munich has long been interested in the midfield talent from Leverkusen. However, despite the Bundesliga defending champions' determination to get him, it is not easy to successfully introduce the German international. In an interview with AZ, Rummenigge said that Wirtz is the "best player" in Germany at the moment, but his transfer is very difficult due to multiple competitions.
Rummenigge said: "(Uli) Hoeness said Wirtz was his dream player - and he expressed it very politely. At Bayern, everyone thinks he is a player we want to sign. Not to weaken Leverkusen, but to strengthen our strength. Wirtz is the best player in Germany."
"What matters here is not the market valuation, but the final transfer fee. It will undoubtedly be a difficult deal to make because Wirtz is a very popular player."
Wirtz currently has more than two years left on his contract with Leverkusen and is estimated to be worth around 150 million euros. European giants including Manchester City and Real Madrid are eyeing him and are willing to pay this high transfer fee. Therefore, as Rummenigge said, it will not be easy for Bayern to sign the 21-year-old player.
So far this season, Wirtz has scored 15 goals and contributed 13 assists. He is expected to represent Leverkusen away against Frankfurt in the Bundesliga this Saturday.
