Manchester Evening News: Onana has no intention of leaving Manchester United, Amorim plans to sign a new goalkeeper this summer

Andre Onana has no intention of leaving Manchester United at the moment, Manchester Evening News editor-in-chief Samuel Luckhurst reported on Monday.

The 28-year-old Andre Onana is from Cameroon and studied in the youth training of Barcelona and Ajax when he was a teenager. He mainly plays as a goalkeeper and has played for Ajax and Inter Milan in his career.

In July 2023, Onana joined Manchester United for £47.2 million on the recommendation of former Ajax coach Eric Ten Hag. The two worked together at Ajax from 2017 to 2022, during which time they won three Eredivisie titles, two Dutch Cup titles and one Dutch Super Cup title.

So far, Onana has played 87 times for Manchester United, keeping 21 clean sheets and winning one FA Cup. As he conceded 13 goals due to mistakes at Manchester United, there are constant questions about his future.

Although Onana's contract with Manchester United will last until 2028, Ruben Amorim still plans to strengthen the goalkeeping position this summer. Some believe that this move is aimed at dealing with the possibility that Tom Heaton may retire after his contract expires this summer. The second goalkeeper and Turkish national goalkeeper Altay Bainder may also choose to transfer in order to gain more playing time and prepare for the 2026 World Cup.

Regardless, Onana still hopes to continue playing for Manchester United next season and looks forward to achieving more success with the Red Devils.
